Thursday, 02/16/2012 8:22 error in the BEST study on global warming The BEST study to assess the urban heat island effect on global temperatures is wrong. The study author, Dr. Richard Muller, has not thoroughly dealt with the influence of colonization and cold winter on the temperature trends.
The BEST Paper Influence of Urban Heating on the Global population reference bureau Temperature country Average Using Rural Sites Identified from MODIS Classifications are the red dots represent stations with warming trends, the blue with cooling trends. In this article it is shown that Dr. Richard Muller has not thoroughly dealt with the impact of colonization and the cold winter population reference bureau and has not even the winter temperatures further population reference bureau attention to the north.
Most of Dr. Richard Muller et al. checked temperature measuring stations are in the USA. In the cited paper cooling was detected in 33% of the stations, to a Gaussian distribution (Fig. 3, below) was created for heating and cooling that explained the authors with measurement errors. That sounds strange because the stations with cooling - as shown on the map above - have not a random distribution. This would be expected if the Gaussian distribution went back to a random population reference bureau error. Many stations are located in the Southeast quadrant of the United States. To the urbanized areas is clearly demonstrated a concentration of red dots. This is caused by the heat island effect (UHI). population reference bureau But whence comes the blue cooling effect in the southeast? population reference bureau Figure 2 shows another card with the annual average temperatures in North America from 1950 to 2000. Notice that the area with cooling in Figure 1 also is the warm area in Figure 2. For this cooling in Figure population reference bureau 1 Dr. Muller was no explanation.
The author has collected data from 71 locations with continuous long-term records (1930-2000), distributed throughout the U.S. and Canada, downloaded, focusing on the region with cooling and the areas north and west of it. Each location was verified by way of the network on the basis of Anthony Watts' SurfaceStations.org metadata, and in particular the removal of the thermometer from the stations nearest the heated building. The population of the surrounding areas were taken from Wikipedia. The December, January and February temperatures (winter) have been downloaded from GISS and calculates population reference bureau the temperature trends from 1934 to 2000 for each location, as well as the winter-mean temperatures. Figure 4 shows the winter mean temperatures and the winter temperature trend for 71 places dar. Fig. 4 Winter mean temperatures and winter temperature trend for 71 places versus heating or cooling trend for the period from 1934 to 2000. The winter mean temperatures are for
